Dell Blog Network – Does it matter?
About 3 years ago Dell started its network of blogs (starting with IdeaStorm and Direct2Dell). As you’d expect, its pretty much a different way to the same old corporate PR. That said, they do seem to have a pretty good dialogue going with the Dell customer base. As Dell customers… please comment. Do you know these exist? Have these blogs changed your impression of the company? Is your life more fulfilled?

The Dell Smartphone has arrived!
Its called the “Mini 3i”, consistent with Dell’s small form-factor naming convention and bound (so-far) only for china. Not much more to report than Boy Genius reported the other day, but is running android (Redmond must be concerned) and in a pretty Maroon color (not really my cup of tea).

Dell close to releasing smartphone? Hell finally freezing over?

Photo: Rumored Dell smartphone/Boy Genius Report
Going back to the Dell Axim (Circa 2004), and reinforced by the legions of Motorola exiles who arrived to save Dell’s Consumer business, rumors of a Dell smartphone have rung from the hillsides. While Dell and Microsoft are usually tied at the hip on projects such as this, Boy Genius Report reports that they finally have a “launch ready” product. Seems that the product is designed just for the chinese market. Will be interesting if Uncle Mikey greenlights the design for outside the emerging markets

Deal Alert – Dell Inspiron 17 Notebook – ONLY $499
I remember when the 17″ notebook form factor was launched in 2003/2004. They were heavy, ugly and cost considerably more than 14″ and 15″ notebooks. Well looks like times have changed – Dell.com is offering their value line 17″ Notebook - the Inspiron 17 for just $499. Includes a Pentium Dual Core, Vista Home and 2GB onboard / 160GB HDD. Its still large, and probably not great for a student to lug all around campus. May make a good desktop replacement though.
